Should be a cracker - for possibly the first time all year, it seems like we genuinely have six guys on basically equal pace, any of whom could win the race! :D

Set up for the best race of the season so no doubt the top 3 on the grid will crash leaving Hamilton with a comfortable win.

Oh i'm not a Hamilton fan! That would be the most undesirable outcome for me, which is why it almost certainly will happen!

That's ok. Weren't Mercedes having the best race pace? So starting from 4th isn't too bad. Even the commentators on C4 were saying Canadian Qualy is the least important qualy of the season due to the unpredictability of the races that have taken place in the past.

You can't get much closer than this from different cars, front to back there's going to be lots going on.

Unfortunately I was right about a a Bahrain repeat for STR and McLaren's fortunes.

Equally excited. It's going to be great. I think there is a high chance of some of the top runners taking each other out, let's see what happens!!!

On a track like this where overtaking is possible and pit lane loss is less, it makes sense to go for an aggressive pit strategy.

Red Bull should be well positioned for an aggressive 2 stop strategy.

What is supposedly the quickest strategy?

Bet your bottom dollar whatever it is at least two of the big teams will desperately try to eek out a one stop.

That's one close S2! Bottas and Vettel faster than their teammates in all sectors, Verstappen in 2/3.

As per Pirelli, here are the best pit strategy options:

Quickest is a one-stopper - Start on hypersoft for 15 laps, then one stint on supersoft to the flag.
An alternative one-stopper (nearly as quick) - One stint on ultrasoft (20 to 25 laps) then one stint on supersoft to the flag.
Two-stopper - Two stints on hypersoft of 10 laps each, then one stint on supersoft to the flag. (This one is also recommended due to the high degradation).

Jesus, even Pirelli thin it will be a one stop. First half the race will be all about looking after tyres then.

I'm surprised Pirelli are recommending the HS for 15 laps. By all accounts they degrade much quicker than that

Maybe they're learning? Usually you can add about 25% on to whatever life Pirelli recommend.

Pirelli said before the season started they want to make races 2 stop, in normal racing conditions we are lucky to see that.

I'm calling this one for Seb and Ferrari easily. I hope Max fights hard against Hamilton at the start and let's see what happens there.

Bottas will win.
Hamilton will pit early, Seb will cover it and Bottas will stay out for longer and cruise to the win.

Then a 5 page debate on how Bottas slow race pace was on purpose ;) tbh I wouldn't be surprised if something like that did happen but with Verstappen pitting early, Ferrari love a strategy error.

Should be a good race! The top three teams seem fairly evenly matched (maybe Red Bull is a tad behind, but not much) and the midfield battle looks exciting.

The track itself is also very exciting, so I'm looking forward to this one. It is also in my time zone, so I can actually enjoy it in the daytime, and not early morning or late at night.

One of the most anticipated races in 4 years. Who knew all we needed was for Mercedes not to get an upgrade on time

Tbf that's not really Pirelli's fault. 2 stop has usually been the faster strategy in theory.

Well, my view on what Verstappen should do is not try too hard on the first lap. His starting position was unexpected due to his great lap in qualifying. This is already a good position. leave it until the 2nd lap when things have spread out before going for a lunge. If he has a go, even if it isn't his fault if he got damage, I just don't think he should risk putting himself in a risky situation. Try to overtake 1 car cleanly, then the other. Just a bit later on.
If he gets involved in an incident again and any of it is down to his own input, he really needs to change his approach.
