I missed the deadline to edit my predictions after FP3 (I thought it was the start of quali, but they actually shut me out 10 minutes before quali!). I get a feeling it's not going to be pretty for me, though...

With any luck, this was a low-scoring round. I certainly can't imagine anyone putting together enough correct picks for bonus points!

I cant see this being a high scoring round either. The whole haas disaster really messed things up. I was looking good till then but im sure so were alot of others lol.... I'll post results once the site is done with all the calculations. (Usually mondays but sometimes it doesnt fully update every team until tuesday making me have to edit scores smh.)

Australia update

FINALLY the 2018 formula one season is underway and we find ourselves with the usual suspects at the front. Lewis Hamilton once again showing everyone just how a head of the field the Mercedes team is going into the season opener. He put together an amazing lap at Albert park making it his 5th consecutive start from pole. Which was 6th tenths faster then his closest competitor of Kimi Raikkonen who showed up looking like his former self of old putting his ferrari on the front row.

On race day hamilton got off to a great start leading the pack with the iceman nipping at his heals waiting for his chance to pounce as he showed great pace on the first stint matching hamilton. We saw vettel stay pretty comfortable in 3rd while playing rear gunner to raikkonen all while max versteppens talent became unglued in pursuit of the opportunistic kevin magnessen who found himself in 4th after turn 1. But it wasnt ment to be for the haas team as some unforeseen events lead to both haas cars having to retire. The chain of events caused a vsc which ended up costing hamilton the lead to his rival sebastian vettel.

Vettel now with the upper hand inheriting the lead of the race. Hamilton chopping at his heals wanting the race win that keeps eluding him dispite starting from pole. The pressure was now on. But alas a mistake made by mercedes strategist and the error made by hamilton in his pursuit proved to be too much for the current wdc to recover from handing over the win to vettel.

Meeean while on our leader board some of us are starting off a bit rough, others seem to have forgotten to save their entries and one of us won the round!!! congratulations to AJ Racing for winning the Australian Grand prix

Not great, but if I learned anything last year it's that the score you post in low-scoring rounds isn't what wins you the championship - it's how high you can crank up the bonuses in your good rounds. Last year Bahrain was a good one for me, so I'm feeling confident that I won't be staying P14 for long! 8)

- Bahrain update

Image
source: http://scuderiafans.com/wp-content/uplo ... 79x483.jpg

The cold temperatures and the desert sand storms looked like the perfect place for Red bull to show that they were a true title contender this year. Max Versteppen and Daniel Riccardo both looked liked potential spoilers for the win with blistering race pace demonstrated by both drivers in fp2. Mercedes on the other hand seemed to be struggling with grip and setups, all while kimi raikkonen the leading Ferrari during practice looked once again poised to be a real threat for this weekends race. But it was the prancing horse of one Sebastian vettel whom snatched pole away from his teammate extracting all the available ponies on offer giving Ferrari its first 1-2 lock out of the season.

On race day we had Ferrari leading the pack, bottas playing damage control and what appeared to be a real battle of strategies with lewis Hamilton and max versteppen starting the race deep in the midfield. But alas the 2018 season once again claimed a double retirement for yet another team. Both red bull drivers went down within a handful of laps leaving everyone to wonder what could have been for them. As for Lewis Hamilton a man driving as though he had nothing to lose in the opening stages of the race was making moves left, right and center to claw his way back to the front of the field.

In the closing stages of the race Mercedes seemed to have the upper hand as both bottas and Hamilton were on harder rubber closing in on one Sebastian vettel just managed to hold off the late charge from the flying finn. Bottas finished just 0.6 sec behind vettel allowing vettel to escaped by the hairs on his chiney chin chin with dead tires. None the less a flawless drive by vettel and the ability to stay calm under pressure ensured him the win.

- Can anyone stop vettel????
- Will Mercedes stop breaking gear boxes???
- When will max versteppen finally put a good race together????

STAY TUNED.........

Bahrain race results are as follows. Congratulations to Black_Flag_11 aka PredictablyPoor for winning the Bahrain Gp   ,

No worries, part of the fun of managing your team is naming it. ;) and i do the updates to bring the game back to the forum. Keeping the feel of the competition alive as we fight for positions every race.

- China update

Image
source: https://1v1d1e1lmiki1lgcvx32p49h8fe-wpe ... 00x640.jpg

China, a track that has been dominated by mercedes petronas amg in the new turbo era and a track where lewis hamilton has won 5xs in his career. Undoubtably the favorite going into this race weekend. He showed us some hints of speed in fp1 & fp2 looking like the man to beat but fp3 painted a whole new picture in red, Ferrari red to be exact as the ponies showed up in fp3 with kimi Raikkonen once again leading the way in practice.

Kimi once again showing brilliance in qualifying only to be pipped on the final run by his teammate sebastian Vettel snatching pole from kimi yet again. The stage was now set with the Ferrari lock out at the front both Mercedes giving chase and redbull seeming like they were no where after disaster struck both cars in Fp3 giving them reliability & mechanical issues.

On race day, things seemed to be like a certain win for Vettel as he was cruising to a 3.3 sec lead ahead of Bottas. But on pit stop rotations the threat of the undercut was real as bottas slashed away at vettel's cushion allowing him to over take Vettel on lap 21 as Ferrari waited 2 laps too late to pit their leading man. Ferrari now seemingly blowing there pit call now have the brilliant idea to sacrifice kimi's race to back bottas into vettel. The tactic didnt go according to plan as the flying finn bottas got passed his fellow countryman kimi without any issues. Vettel now a bit closer, still cannot get passed bottas and it appeared to be game over for Ferrari.

But on lap 30 Pierre gasly decided to give his teammate the horns causing a safety car to be deployed. In doing so it was the bulls of a different color whom decided to roll the dice and perform a double pitstop giving their boys new softs with 25 laps remaining in the race. Max Versteppen was the bull leading the charge up until a mistake running wide off track allowing Daniel Riccardo past him. Riccardo now with 3 targets in his sight begins his hunt as 1 by 1 the smiling assassin takes them down with ease and on lap 45 the :] assassin takes out his last target Bottas with a great inside move on turn 6 taking the lead. Riccardo never looked back setting fastest lap after fastest lap and checking out to the tune of 9.1sec. An amazing show case of talent performed by Riccardo for the much deserved win.

Can Ferrari finally give kimi a good strategy?
Will Mercedes stop calculating the numbers and win a race?
What track will Max Versteppen stop over driving the car????

STAY TUNED !!!!!

China results as foillows. Congratulations to Unlikeuday aka UltimoF1 for winning the Chinese Gp

MEEEEEEEAAAAAN WHILE back on our leader board PredictablyPoor still leads the way with a 10pts gap to project mayhem who moved up one spot but with that round win UltimoF1 climbs 9 spots to tie KC GRAND PRIX for 3rd place and are hot on the heels of project mayhem with 1 point separating them. It is very close in the mid field as only 22 points separates the midfield from the top 3

Eh, climbing the ranks at least. My title defense is off to a start about as shaky as Lewis', but I know that I can claw it all back as soon as some bonuses start rolling in. Hopefully that's Baku! :]

one sure thing about this game no lead is safe. On race day everyone has a chance to win BIG and go from zero to hero.

Didn't expect such a good haul as Hamilton & Vettel didn't finish in their expected range. 1 good result can create wonders. Thanks Mayhem for the timely update & for the appreciation as well.

Those who're leading worldwide standings, got a 60 point bonus atleast to add to their big tally. Bonus points are more like lottery as guessing who'll gain the most positions or the fastest lap cannot be predicted with confidence.

Those aren't the big bonuses, though. Getting the entire podium correct (unlikely, in China) and getting 6 out of the top 10 correct are the most likely ones to nail and get some serious points out of.

True. I got 5 right. Had I gotten 1 more right, would've automatically gotten 60 points bonus.

Thanks from me too, Mayhem. Great work.

I've only this week realised it seems to me that "your grid prediction" is actually your prediction for the final result, rather than where people start on Sunday. Is that correct?

That is correct. It's a prediction of the finishing order. The name is slightly confusing...

Much appreciated toby thank you for the recognition .......

Correct, it is a prediction of the finishing order of the top 10 not the starting grid positions they qualify in. I know they label it as "grid positions" which can make it a bit unclear.

Azerbaijan update

Image
source: https://www.stadiosport.it/wp-content/u ... podium.png

The Azerbaijan Baku grand prix, a street circuit known for its long straights, narrow passages and unforgiving walls all around the track. This race is slowly becoming one of the most exciting spectacles in formula 1 as no one knows quite what to expect. Coming into this race red bull were riding high with confidence as both drivers were looking good in the early stages of practice while both Mercedes and Ferrari true pace looked to be a bit deceiving. On qualifying day it was once again the Ferrari of Kimi Raikkonen that seemed to be destined for pole as the iceman was putting together a stellar lap on pace for a new track record but failed to hold it together in the final sector giving the number one grid spot to his teammate Sebastian Vettel yet again.

One race day the stage was set for an epic battle with Sebastian Vettel leading the way but the race that unfolded was one that none of us could see coming. The contact came early and often in Azerbaijan as the first safety car was deployed on the opening lap where raikkonen, magnessen, Hartley, Alonso, and ericsson all pitting on lap 1. All while ocon and sirotkin were done for the day.

we saw more contact as the race developed but this time between teammates Daniel Riccardo and Max Versteppen who were both swapping positions and paint with each other as the race went on. But it wasn't until lap 40 that the dynamic duo clashed together for the last time causing yet another double DNF for Red bull racing. The race now blown wide open as bottas was able to pit under yet another safety car allowing him to keep the lead ahead of vettel who seemed to be cruising to yet another race win. Bottas, Vettel and Hamilton all now on fresh ultra softs chomping at the bit to restart this race. The fans now salivating at a restart that seemed to be an all out fight to the end between Mercedes and Ferrari. But hold that thought, because just as the drivers were getting ready to resume the race Romain Grosjean decided to check out how sturdy the walls are in baku by slamming his car head first into it delaying the restart of the race even further.

Now with the race finally back under way with 4 laps to go, bottas was off to a lightning restart with vettel, Hamilton and raikkonen all giving chase. heading into turn 1 vettel from a looong way back goes for the move on bottas locking up the left front tire forcing him to go wide missing the corner and rejoining the track in p4 behind his teammate. Mercedes now with a strong 1-2 pulling away from Ferrari are hit with yet another surprise as bottas runs over some remaining road debris causing a puncture with just 3 laps to go!! Bottas now forced to retire his car has another win slip through his fingers. Hamilton now inheriting the lead from his wounded teammate, Raikkonen moving into 2nd and Sergio Perez (yes that's right) makes the move on a wounded vettel for the final place on the podium.. What a race ( you cant make this stuff up people.)

Can bottas get that elusive win??
Will redbull impose team orders?
and was this the final straw that broke Riccardo's back enabling him to make the move to Ferrari???

STAY TUNED!

MEEEEEAAAAN while back on our leader board PredictablyPoor still holds a 10pt lead over the field. While Harestock F1 leap frogs their way into 2nd place and KC GRAND PRIX becomes the sole 3rd place holder once again fending off the attack from UltimoF1!!!!. In the mid field things are heating up as the rest of the pack swallows up Project Mayhem. Biggest mover this round was Laz_T800 overtaking 5 spots to enter the midfield battle as 17 pts is all that separates midfield from the top 3...

Well, at least nobody has really broken away from the pack yet - a single really high score could still put anyone into the lead. Odd to see the two of us who fought for the title last year 18th and 19th, though. 8O

I didn't do myself any favors that round neither lol. but the scores are all pretty close all around so it is very much still any bodies game.

it is a bit odd for both of last years rookie sensations to be on a slow start but its still early and upgrade's are coming ;)

Now that I've learnt you have up until qualifying to make your tips, this is a whole new ball game.

As so many teams say heading into the Spanish GP - the season starts now.

Spain update

Image
source: http://www3.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Lewi ... KkIVkl.jpg

Heading into Spain many F1 fans were questioning has the Mercedes grip on the turbo era ended? Is Ferrari the team to watch? or can Mercedes win the development race bringing them back to their winning ways. Well this weekend in Spain we got to see firsthand that we truly do have a championship on our hands with the power shift capable of going either way this year at any given track.

In practice it was a bit unclear what the pecking order would be for this race as the top 3 seemed closely matched in race trim but over one lap pace the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton appeared to have a slight edge over the competition. In qualifying less than 7/10 th's covered the top 3 teams as Mercedes surprised us with its first front row locked out of the season.

The stage was set with the merc's leading the way with Ferrari and Red bull giving chase. Heading into turn 1 the tow was too strong for vallteri bottas to keep Sebastian vettel behind allowing vettel to gain 2nd place rather quickly but once again unforeseen circumstances by the likes of Roman Grosjean brought forth a safety car denying us the chance to see if vettel could have done anything in the opening laps against Lewis Hamilton. At the restart Lewis Hamilton proceeded to light up the time charts setting numerous fastest laps in succession. Which inevitably allowed him to check out at the front and was never to be seen again. His main rival vettel attempted to lore Mercedes into possibly altering their strategy to a 2 stopper but the ferrari race pace simply was no match of the Mercedes duo as bottas kept the pressure on vettel for most of the race.

In the later stages Redbull opted for the one stop as Max Versteppen stayed out for a longger first stint. He was gifted 3rd place as Ferrari seemed to fumble the strategy here giving up track position for fresher tires while the merc's stayed out for the 1 stopper. Misfortune struck kimi once again with reliability issues forcing him to retire and local home town hero / F1 meteorologist Fernando alonso was left wondering when was the rain going to arrive but alas it never did show up washing away any hope Alonso had of fighting for a podium.

We also saw our fair share of upgrades up and down the field with everything from fancy mirrors, new noses all the way down to new floors but would the new toys deliver??? well they did for one team whom correctly predicted the top 5 finishers allowing them to score a whopping 110 points this round 8O Congratulations to top banana racing aka Steve_muzzy for winning the Spanish GP

Will Ferrari change their mirrors?
Can Riccardo recover from a lack luster showing?
Should Grosjean retire???

MEEEEEAAAAN while back on our leader board we find ourselves with a new points leader, NOW with a sizable lead over the FIELD! Victorious in the last 2 races Top banana racing  now hold the top spot climbing up +8 spots. As unforeseen reliability issues have struck PredictablyPoor dropping them down -7 x( . The remaining top spots also changed hands as both Harestock F1 and KC GRAND PRIX fall -4 spots :( . In 2nd we now have Suit Up Racing  and tied for 3rd we have BancieriF1  & UltimoF1  attempting another overtake for that 3rd place spot. CONGRATS TO OUR NEW TOP 3 !!!! Notable mention to How F1 for climbing +6 spots and Strange Thingys GP climbing +5. You guys gained some ground on the midfield....
