2016 CANADIAN GRAND PRIX RESULTSWith Monaco featuring a rare break from this year's form of 'first-corner incident eliminates the possibility of a perfect podium', we were back on form this time; although Nico Rosberg wasn't out of the race after the first corner, his teammate-induced setback proved too great to overcome and he finished off the podium for the third time in succession. Honestly, why do people even pick this guy anymore?

But if the absence of Rosberg from the podium was widely unanticipated, the presence of Valtteri Bottas on that same podium went totally unpredicted, despite the fact that he had occupied it the previous year! But before one completely loses faith in the prediction ability of the Top Three Championship field, 89% of those who filed predictions successfully predicted the correct winner, Lewis Hamilton. Only three contestants however placed Vettel second on the podium, and that proved sufficient to give them a joint round win in this very flat scoring round; congratulations to

DNSA non-scoring round by championship leader robins13 (and yes, I double-checked this time!) allows cm97 to close the gap the the top to a mere 3 points; the pair are still separated from the chasing field by a sizable gap of 10 points to the next nearest contestant, now Fountoukos13. A very flat scoring round in general results in few positional changes, with Thrash13 suffering the most due to a first DNS of the year.

0 Points (7 DNS)The scoring pace this year has been quite similar on the individual side to the same point last year; after round seven in 2015, Jenson's Understeer led the championship with 42 points. The situation was quite different when the dust settled in Abu Dhabi, so those further back can take hope from the fact that the leader at this point last year would go on to finish 29 points off the lead. Unless you're Jenson's Understeer, in which case it's probably best forgotten...
In the team standings, the flat scoring has resulted in most teams scoring 10 points; the exceptions are the teams which dropped any scoring for one of their members; Fire & Ice only scored with one driver, and as a result now have Multi21 and Mind Your Manors for close company, with the top three separated by only 4 points. Below that threesome is clear air, followed by a tightly contested pack fighting for positions 4 through 8; the big loser of the round is Redline GP, who fall from 4th place all the way to 7th, being jumped by Understeer = Mayhem (who are in turn jumped by McLotus) and also by No Limit Excedrin Racing. At the back, newcomers Crash & Learn are looking to establish themselves in that midfield pack, and have opened up a gap to Lucky 13 Racing, who remain at the bottom of the standings for now.

21 PointsUnlike in the individual standings, where the competition is running roughly to last year's pace, the highest team score is a full 17 points off the mark set at this time in 2015; at that time the juggernaut of F1 Mayhem was tearing up the standings with both drivers fighting at the front, having already managed 78 points by the time they left Canada. They would go on the fight all the way to Abu Dhabi, losing the title by 8 points in the end (finishing 2nd).
Or as the F1 drivers like to say, the season is long and anything could still happen. It's all still to play for as we head to a brand new track in Baku for the European Grand Prix of 2016; who will take the correct gamble on a track that nobody really knows the characteristics of? With the weekend approaching at almost the terrifying speed of its main straight, we'll soon know!

(Apologies for any errors - I caught a bad cold at the GP, and I'm still a bit out of it with medication!)
