SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX RESULTS

In a dreadful example of groupthink, every single one of us went for Vettel to win the Singapore Grand Prix despite ominous signs on Friday that Mercedes was very much on the pace. Those ominous signs grew to a tornado of failure on Saturday, as Hamilton solidly out-qualified Vettel by 6 tenths and took pole. Sunday was more of the same, with the #5 Ferrari delivering nothing but failure as #44 cruised to victory.

Nobody predicted Hamilton to win (although at least one person almost did and chickened out!), but there were two brave souls who correctly placed Max Verstappen in second. They are the winners! Congratulations, Bentrovato and coulthards chin!

Individual Standings - Round Fifteen

Bentrovato regains the points and places he lost in Monza, where he scored 0 and his immediate rivals scored 3. This time, the tables are turned quite precisiely, restoring the situation to post-Spa gaps.

Further down, coulthard's chin moves closer to 16th-placed Black_Flag_11, but does not change position.

Team Standings - Round Fifteen

Image

As neither of the two scorers are affiliated with a team, the team picture remains exactly - and quite literally - the same. I didn't make a new one, so this is last round's image.

CHAMPIONSHIP PICTURE

Unchanged.

NEXT RACE

Next race is Sochi, a track that has traditionally favored Mercedes - although Ferrari looked to have the pace to win last year. With Hamilton whitewashing the last two races that favored Ferrari on paper, are we expecting to see a bit of a silver tide begin to rise? Or are there still those who believe in Sebastian Vettel to do something other than throw away the result?

There's a possibility that results for Sochi will be delayed a few days. If I don't get to them the same night, don't expect to see them until mid-week.

Hard to read this one. Ferrari usually steps up from Friday, but they look disturbingly slow so far...

It's really hard to get a read on how I feel about the result, isn't it?

RUSSIAN GRAND PRIX RESULTS

Following hard on the footsteps of two lost 'must-win' races, Ferrari was firmly on the back foot coming into the Russian Grand Prix. With Mercedes looking on ominous form throughout Friday practice, the majority of the Top Three Championship grid duly backed the lead Silver Arrow to take victory on Sunday.

That's what happened, but not without controversy. Valtteri Bottas - alias The Wingman - was leading the race from the start, and didn't look under any real threat either from the late-stopping Max Verstappen or from his slightly quicker teammate. Until, that was, team orders struck again - the dreaded call to let his teammate through came down, and from there on it was clean sailing for #Blessed to take another victory.

What does that mean for the competition here, though? Almost everyone picked Hamilton to win, so on that score the only losers are really the four unfortunate souls who did not. However, there was more to be gained this time than a mere 5 points for correctly placing the victor: thanks to Mercedes and their #1 policy, no less than five entrants will be taking home the Perfect Podium prediction today! A properly choreographed congratulations for Jenson's Understeer, P-F1 Mod, coulthards chin, cm97 and Remmirath! x(

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First Place - 14 points
Jenson's Understeer, P-F1 Mod, coulthards chin, cm97, Remmirath

Second Place - 5 points
Icemanjee1, Jezza13, TheDamus, Mod Onyx, Mod Titanium, Exediron, Mayhem, Flash2k11, CarlPotter, robins13, Mod Blue

The Rest - 0 points
Lotus49, Bentrovato, Black_Flag_11, Herb

Did Not Start
TypingChicane, Espo

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Individual Standings - Round Sixteen

Image

After a few races - well, more than a few! - without any big changes in position, it's all happening this time:

After 10 rounds in the lead, having taken 1st place with a Perfect Podium in Monaco, Mod Titanium's run at the top is finally over - for now, at least. Championship veteran cm97 moves into first place on the strength of his Perfect Podium, turning a 2-point deficit into a 4-point lead over Remmirath, who now slots into second. Mod Titanium falls to third place, now suddenly 7 points off the lead he had held for so long.

Jenson's Understeer is another big mover, going from 9th to 4th due to his own Perfect Podium. Behind, robins13, Jezza13 and Mayhem all hold station relative to one another, losing a place to Jenson's Understeer but all scoring the same. Mod Onyx moves up a place, scoring the same as the above three but benefiting from Bentrovato failing to score a point this round. Exediron similarly benefits, taking 9th place. Coulthards Chin is the biggest mover of the round, moving from 17th place all the way to the bottom of the top ten.

Having failed to score in a high scoring round - always a risk - Bentrovato ends up in 11th, on the outside looking in at the top ten. CarlPotter and Mod Blue remain in 12th and 13th, with Espo slotting him behind them due to a potentially costly DNS, his third of the season. Icemanjee1 and Herb remain in place behind, now 15th and 16th.

It's P-F1 Mod behind them now in 17th, having moved up all the way from 21st due to a much-needed Perfect Podium - the 14 points from this round more than double his previous haul of the season. Black_Flag_11 remains in 18th place, but TheDamus is closing in; similarly, Lotus49 is still in 19th, but Flash2k11 is only 2 points back now.

At the back, the reigning champion TypingChicane posts a fourth consecutive DNS, having clearly withdrawn from the championship at this point - understandably so, having only scored points twice all season.

Team Standings - Round Sixteen

Image

Things are happening in the team standings as well: Bowah Steering Wheel has retaken the lead, drawing level with Sand Bag'n but winning the tiebreakers by dint of having more Perfect Podiums - although Sand Bag'n has significantly more wins to their name, the Perfect Podium is king in this competition. They both sit on 94 points, with 2015 champions No Limit Excedrin Racing only 2 points further back and holding the tiebreakers over both of them. Having started the season at the bottom of the standings, NLER has been on quite the surge lately.

Crisis in Management remains in fourth, losing a little touch with the top three - they are joined now by their sister team Management in Crisis, who benefited strongly this round from P-F1 Mod's perfect podium. This is only the second time all season that P-F1 Mod has outscored Mod Titanium. Drive Sauber is now right there as well, but as usual are struggling to get consistent scoring from both drivers - last season TheDamus more than doubled Remmirath's points, but the tables have turned this year, and Remmirath now holds a similar advantage. Jalopy Racing is a little further back, not really in the fight for fourth, but also fairly comfortably ahead of the bottom two teams.

At the back, The Also Rans are in serious danger from Lotus-CC Racing, who finally put together a strong round with coulthards chin scoring a Perfect Podium: they now sit only 6 points from what must surely be their goal of not finishing last. Points from Singapore have been credited to their total now, by the way! ;)

CHAMPIONSHIP PICTURE

This round has proved a perfect demonstration of the power of the Perfect Podium. With results generally quite unpredictable this season, anyone who can walk away with the correct predictions from a rare predictable round has a huge advantage.

There are 70 possible points remaining to be scored in the individual standings, but at the current average scoring rate of 3.6 per round, anyone sitting on less than 41 points should consider themselves on shaky ground with respect to challenging for the title. The good news for the top ten is that pretty much all of them are within that margin. Without a Perfect Podium, TypingChicane will be mathematically eliminated next round, the first such casualty.

In the team standings, there are of course more points available, so anyone could still win. Sand Bag'n, No Limit Excedrin Racing and Crisis in Management have the most evenly matched teammates, and thus something of an advantage for taking the team title. Perhaps significantly, all six drivers are among the most experienced in the competition.

In an interesting bit of trivia, as of right now every single competitor who beat their teammate last season is currently losing to them.

NEXT RACE

The Japanese Grand Prix is next, a track that - on paper - should suit both teams. The momentum is firmly with Hamilton, but surely at least a few entrants will try their luck on a red car taking victory - or perhaps, a dark blue one? Red Bull had pace to take note of in Sochi, and that was a track where they weren't expected to be competitive. Can Max Verstappen go one better than his impressive second place last year in Suzuka?

I will be traveling for the Japanese Grand Prix, so don't expect the results to come out until probably late the next week. I will put up preliminary results if I'm able.

Did not have a good feeling going into this one, almost went with Bottas for the win which was the correct prediction but [cough Toto cough] Hamilton was to unstoppable today.

Congrats to all the winners. Incase any one was wondering pf1 mod and I are free to race . No team orders here

I knew it wasn't going well for you, but that puts it in perspective. Ouch! 8O

In terms of my own First World problems, I'm still kicking myself for not picking Hamilton to win in Monza and Singapore, when both times I hovered over the submit button and chickened out. We'd be in the team lead if I'd done it!

Early banker for Japan:

1. Hamilton
2. Bottas
3. Verstappen
