Knockout Cup: Quarter Final update!

#1 robins13 1 vs. 0 #17 Jezza13 (Spa: 8 v 0)
#5 Jenson's Understeer 1 vs. 0 #14 Exediron (Spa: 8 v 5)
#6 Black_Flag_11 1 vs. 0 #13 Lotus49 (Spa: 8 v 5)
#7 Herb 0 vs. 1 #8 icemanjee1 (Spa: 1 v 8 )

The scores at Spa largely went the way of the seedings. #1 seed Robins13 has immediately opened up a big lead on our lowest remaining seed, Jezza13, courtesy of an 8-0 victory in Spa. With two races left in the quarter final round there is still time to make that up, although Jezza13 is going to need a stronger result at Monza this weekend to avoid leaving too much work for the final race of the round. Jenson's Understeer and Black_Flag_11 both possess slim advantages over their opponents thanks to two 8-5 victories. At this stage, though, three points isn't much of a gap at all, so we could yet see either (or perhaps even both) the #13 and #14 seeds cause yet more upsets in this topsy-turvy competition. And while it probably wouldn't be considered an 'upset' as the match pits #7 against #8, Icemanjee1 has raced into a seven-point lead over Herb.

Was I too late?

I think you made it just in time. Start of FP3 is official cut off.

If it is the start of FP3 then Jezza was literally one minute too late; the post shows up at 9:01am (which would've been 10:01am in GMT; FP3 started at 10:00am). Controversial! Interesting to see whether Exediron allows it or applies the rule to the letter of the law!

Unfortunately, this is correct. I have your post as 05:01 EST, and FP3 officially started at 05:00 EST. According to the competition rules:

Quote:
The deadline to submit your picks this year has changed; last year it was 20:00 UK time on the Friday of each race weekend. Effective from the start of the 2016 season, the time limit has been extended to any time before the official beginning of FP3. Any changes or any new entries made after the official start of FP3 will not count; this rule is not flexible, especially not now that it's been increased to a more generous limit.

Sorry! :-((

Dear benevolent and exulted Exediron,

Keeping in the spirit that is F1 of looking for even the smallest loophole or grey area that may provide reason for exploitation and subsequent reconsideration of a regulation, may I cordially request a review of the above decision based on the following factors?

1. The rules state the cut off point is the official beginning of FP3 and not the scheduled beginning of FP3. Can we confirm that FP3 did in fact commence precisely at 11:00.00 am Belgian time and not later?

2. Was the time as indicated on this forum synchronized with the time used as the official indicator at the circuit? If the answer is uncertain, is it then not reasonable to consider there is the possibility that the time at the circuit may have read 11:00.00 am while the time indicator on the forum actually indicated it was later than that ?

3. Keeping in mind points 1 & 2, it should be noted that both times as displayed only indicate the hour & minute. It does not include the seconds display. Can we then consider that there is a possibility that my amended post was indeed, actually submitted prior to the official start of FP3, even if only by seconds, and therefore within the regulations as set out at the beginning of the season?

Finally Exediron, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you on your simply outstanding and remarkable administration of this fine and noble competition and I know that, being the principled and objective presiding controller you are, your decision, after considering the above points, will be based solely on what is fair, reasonable and just.

I throw myself, my team mate and my team at your mercy.

Oh I nearly forgot. While your here, could you please take this and make a donation to your favorite charity in your name? It's ok, you don't have to tell me what charity or show me a receipt. I trust ya ;)

Just how much are you prepared to offer? I'm sure the marvellous and venerable Exediron would never bend his ethics to the puny amount you could put forth, and certainly not in comparison to the extraordinary figures possibly mentioned by other members of this competition, who want to ensure that the result stands :-P.

Ah then. I see how it is. It seems that reason and justice has a formidable opponent in the form of the self interest of a devious coalition of my counterparts.

I offer a moderate amount of currency for no other motive than as a donation to Exed's favorite charity in simple recognition of the exemplary work that has been applied to facilitate this remarkable competition, and yet I am faced with, what appears to be, a dark alliance of my competitors offering what can only be described as an overt and downright corrupt allurement in a thinly veiled attempt to ensure the status quo is maintained and make sure that those at the bottom remain at the bottom.

Well I say this to my adversary's. The omnipotent and resplendent Exediron will see through your wicked endeavors and I have no doubt that once my claim is examined and given due consideration that the scales of justice will be righted in my favour and those who attempted to influence Exedirons impartiality with their duplicitous enterprise will be identified and very publicly purged from this contest without fear or favour and I for one shall be standing with Exediron side by side as the shamed are marched from our presence.

Either that or the decision will stand and i'll just have to cop it sweet I spose.

At the same time as I file this banker prediction, I would like to officially denounce rumors that a coalition of championship leaders have pooled their resources in a special contribution to uphold Jezza13's disqualification. Such rumors are not only false, but also very false. No such thing ever happened.

Moving right along, then!

Knockout Cup: Quarter Final update

#1 robins13 1 vs. 0 #17 Jezza13 (Monza: 1 v 1)
#5 Jenson's Understeer 2 vs. 0 #14 Exediron (Monza: 1 v 0)
#6 Black_Flag_11 2 vs. 0 #13 Lotus49 (Monza: 1 v 0)
#7 Herb 0 vs. 1 #8 icemanjee1 (Monza: 1 v 1)

Despite the low-scoring round seeing nobody left in the Knockout Cup scoring more than a single point, we've actually seen two of the match-ups decided already. Both Jenson's Understeer and Black_Flag_11 had outscored their opponents a week ago in Belgium and, even though they both only managed one point in Monza, advance to the last four courtesy of neither Exediron nor Lotus49 scoring. The other two match-ups remain 1-0 to robins13 and Icemanjee1 respectively. Jezza13 has a lot to do if they want to advance. Correctly predicting the top two on the podium (worth eight points) along with a no-score for robins13 would still see robins13 advance by virtue of being the higher seed. Only a perfect podium in Singapore could see Jezza13 create a huge upset, and even then robins13 could squeeze through by correctly identifying both first and second place. In the other match, Herb has slightly more hope, although still needs to outscore Icemanjee1 by seven or more points in Singapore in order to advance.

Seeing as we know 50% of the semi-finalists, here's how the draw will look depending on who else makes it through:

If robins13 and Icemanjee1 also advance: robins13 vs Icemanjee1; Jenson's Understeer vs Black_Flag_11
If robins13 and Herb also advance: robins13 vs Herb; Jenson's Understeer vs Black_Flag_11
If Jezza13 and Icemanjee1 also advance: Jenson's Understeer vs Jezza13; Black_Flag_11 vs Icemanjee1
If Jezza13 and Herb also advance: Jenson's Understeer vs Jezza13; Black_Flag_11 vs Herb

I ran with this Top 3 in the Pick 10 and I can't decide whether to hedge my bets and go for something different here or not

We don't have any official precedent for this, but I'd be inclined to say no. In the case of posting picks you've been given by a poster who for whatever reason can't get to the forum themselves I'd allow it, but in this instance you would essentially be doubling yourself on the team.

If there's prevailing sentiment among the other entrants otherwise I'll change my mind, but just on my own I'm afraid I'll have to go with no. Obviously it is a shame when your teammate disappears for whatever reason, so I'm sorry you're in that situation - but I feel it goes against the spirit of the competition to give any single player a double opportunity to pick.

With that out of the way, my own selections...

2016 SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX
Amended Podium Prediction

1. Lewis Hamilton
2. Daniel Ricciardo
3. Max Verstappen

Hamilton's lack of any long running has left me feeling less than confident about these, but whatever. Gotta take some risks if I want to escape the death grip of the midfield.
