2016 CHINESE GRAND PRIX RESULTS

With 13 of our 18 entrants for this round having Hamilton somewhere on their podium (though since knowledge of his initial grid penalty was widely known, only one was bold enough to have him on the top step!) there must have been quite a few pounded fists and shouted curses when he failed to set a time in qualifying, guaranteeing a start from the back of the grid. That seemed to leave matters open for Ferrari to assert their will on the bottom two steps of the podium, but a chaotic first lap which saw contact between the red cars (caused by the madman who would go on to take 3rd in the race) put any remaining perfect podium hopes to bed. Still, a number of contestants did successfully guess the top two steps on the podium - congratulations are in order for Icemanjee1, Remmirath, Saz, Robins13, mcdo, Jenson's Understeer, Exediron and GPG! Special mention goes to TypingChicane for being the only entrant to put a Red Bull on the podium, in the correct spot - too bad it turned out to be the wrong one!

Race Result

~ 1. Exediron +8 Points
~ 1. GPG +8 Points
~ 1. Icemanjee1 +8 Points
~ 1. Jenson's Understeer +8 Points
~ 1. mcdo +8 Points
~ 1. Remmirath +8 Points
~ 1. Robins13 +8 Points
~ 1. Saz +8 Points
~ 9. Bentrovato +5 Points
~ 9. cm97 +5 Points
~ 9. Fountoukos13 +5 Points

~ 14. Herb +0 Points
~ 14. Mayhem +0 Points

~ 14. TypingChicane +0 Points
~ 19. dizlexik DNS
~ 19. IDrinkYourMilkshake DNS
~ 19. theferret DNS
~ 19. Ruste13 DNS

The individual championship remains tight at the top, with championship leader Bentrovato now only two points ahead of second-placed robins13; the pair have managed to pull a sizable gap together on third-placed Black_Flag_11, who must remain wary of attack from Icemanjee1; the two are tied, with only the scoring of a Perfect Podium to separate them in the standings. Further down, Jenson's Understeer, mcdo and Saz continue to move as a block, climbing one place to a joint fifth; last years championship pair of Exediron and GPG also managed to climb a place, moving from eleventh to tenth. A special sympathetic mention goes to Herb, who has yet to score a first point despite entering every round.

Individual Standings - Round Two
1. Bentrovato -- 24 Points
2. robins13 -- 22 Points
3. Black_Flag_11 -- 14 Points (1 Perfect Podium)
4. Icemanjee1 -- 14 Points (0 Perfect Podiums)
~ 5. Jenson's Understeer -- 13 Points
~ 5. mcdo -- 13 Points
~ 5. Saz -- 13 Points
~ 8. cm97 -- 11 Points
~ 8. Remmirath -- 11 Points
~ 10. Exediron -- 9 Points
~ 10. GPG -- 9 Points
12. Jezza13 -- 6 Points
~ 13. Fountoukos13 -- 5 Points
~ 13. Lotus49 -- 5 Points
~ 13. Thrash13 -- 5 Points
~ 16. Mayhem -- 1 Point
~ 16. TypingChicane -- 1 Point
18. Herb -- 0 Points (0 DNS)
19. Ruste13 -- 0 Points (1 DNS)
~ 20. dizlexik -- 0 Points (2 DNS)
~ 20. theferret -- 0 Points (2 DNS)
~ 22. IDrinkYourMilkshake -- 0 Points (3 DNS)

In the team standings, Fire & Ice take a commanding 10 point lead by virtue of steady scoring from both drivers; Bentrovato's one-man team falls to third behind the gritty underdogs of Multi21, while Mind Your Manors drops back a place as well. Defending champions No Limit Excedrin Racing jump from last place to a joint fifth by virtue of a double round win, and another winless round sees Lucky 13 Racing relegated to the back of the grid. They'll be desperate to score their first win(s) in Sochi, because someone always has to be desperate.

Team Standings - Round One
1. Fire & Ice (robins13 & Saz) -- 35 Points
2. Multi21 (Icemanjee1 & cm97) -- 25 Points
3. [TBA] (Bentrovato & Ruste13) -- 24 Points
4. Mind Your Manors (Black_Flag_11 & Fountoukos13) -- 19 Points
~ 5. McLotus (Lotus49 & mcdo) -- 18 Points
~ 5. No Limit Excedrin Racing (Exediron & GPG) -- 18 Points
7. Understeer = Mayhem (Jenson's Understeer & Mayhem) -- 14 Points
8. Crash & Learn (Remmirath & TypingChicane) -- 12 Points
9. Lucky 13 Racing (Thrash13 & Jezza13) -- 11 Points

With Red Bull now having thrown down their gauntlet resoundingly at a power track, are there now three teams in the mix for podiums at a given weekend? Will Rosberg go for his seventh win next time out in Sochi, a track he's never won at yet looked strong at in both previous races? Will Kimi continue to bring a challenge to his quadruple-world champion teammate? To whom knows the answers shall go victory!

See ya'all in Russia.

Disappointing weekend for Ruste13's debut. The mechanics worked hard but his botched pitlane start followed by a brake failure couldn't get him out in time. On the positive side we have a great car this season, it's only a matter of time until the newly acquired Ruste13 scores his first points

Thanks for the special mention. But before the voices in my head start talking louder so I can actually understand what they are saying, this time I'm going to lay down my podium prediction early, and chose something safer (if there is such a thing in 2016):

Russia-
1. Hamilton
2. Rosberg
3. Vettel

Announcement!

Ahead of the Russian Grand Prix, team TBA is now officially Redline GP. The outfit has produced a stellar car ahead of this season and if they can keep up with the development pace of juggernauts Fire&Ice and Multi21, we could be in for an exciting season. The Canadian and Australian tandem are looking to mount a serious challenge for CarlPotter's Top Three Championship and it would be a welcome sight to have fresh faces at the top of the table

Good luck to everyone in Russia

Nice!

Although everyone will have their work cut out for them trying to catch Fire & Ice. They're always strong whenever Rosberg is, for some reason.

Just a reminder: the knockout cup that I'm running will be beginning as of the Canadian GP.

Quote:
After the first six races, the standings would be used to create a knockout tournament. Everybody who had participated in at least one of the first six races would be seeded according to their overall ranking, with the highest seeds receiving a bye into the last 16. How many exactly would depend on how many entrants we had, of course. Using the 21 participants we had last year as an example, the top 11 would advance to the last 16 with those ranked from 12 through to 21 taking part in the qualification round. In the qualification round, the highest seed would face the lowest seed (so 12 vs 21, 13 vs 20, etc.) and that system would continue for the rest of the tournament, with the highest remaining seed always facing the lowest remaining seed, second highest facing the second lowest and so on.

Each round would take place over three races (as below). It would therefore be a best two-out-of-three system. For each individual race, the points scored would be compared and the highest scorer in each match-up would win that race, giving them a win towards the two they need to advance. In the event of neither person winning two of the three races, we would have the following tiebreakers (applied in this order): most points scored over the three races; most perfect predictions over those three races; most 1st places over those three races; highest seed.

Races 7, 8 and 9: Qualification Round
Races 10, 11 and 12: Last 16
Races 13, 14 and 15: Quarter-finals
Races 16, 17 and 18: Semi-finals
Races 19, 20 and 21: Final

At the moment the individual standings feature 22 entrants so those ranked 1-10 would advance to the last 16 and everyone else would take part in the qualification round. For every extra person who participates between now and then we'll drop those advancing to the last 16 down by one. So 24 entrants would mean eight people advancing and 9 thru 24 taking part in the qualifying round. Obviously at the moment we've got quite a few ties in the standings and while I'm hoping none will remain prior to Canada, that seems unlikely! So any that remain will be broken using a random drawing on randomresult.com. I can set up draws to run 24 hours later and post the link/s here.

Might come back and change this depending on how Ferrari look with their engine/front wing upgrades.
