Then Senator John Glenn with space suit as a member of the Space Shuttle Discovery in 1998. 36 years after his orbit around the Earth.

The space program are in mourning following the loss of an aeronautical legend. Former Astronaut and Senator John Glenn passed away after he was hospitalized for a stroke. He was part of Project Mercury along with 6 others:

LT (later CDR) Malcolm Scott Carpenter (1925–2013), USN
Capt (later Col) Leroy Gordon "Gordo" Cooper, Jr. (1927–2004), USAF
Capt (later Lt Col) Virgil Ivan "Gus" Grissom (1926–1967), USAF
LCDR (later CAPT) Walter Marty "Wally" Schirra, Jr. (1923–2007), USN
LCDR (later RADM) Alan Bartlett Shepard, Jr. (1923–1998), USN
Maj Donald Kent "Deke" Slayton (1924–1993), USAF

After his military career (Retired from the US Marine Corps with the rank of Colonel), he attempted a new career in politics before becoming Senator in 1974.

Our hearts go out to his family.

And the Mercury 7 are back together.

The US Air Force have provided the family of Troy Gilbert a 3rd and final funeral as his body will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

It took 10 years for Ginger Gilbert-Ravella and their family to finally get closure. In 2006, US Air Force Major Troy Gilbert received a distress call from a helicopter that crashed in Iraq. Right after he took out an enemy truck, his F-16 Falcon flew so low, he could not pull his get up and crashed. The 1st funeral was held in 2006 when bone fragments were found on the crash site.

The 2nd was held in 2013 after the Jordanian Embassy in Baghdad received his toes. And this past August, a Warlord confirmed that he had his body for propaganda purposes.

His funeral will be held on December 19.

Man, 2016 just keeps giving doesn't it! :-((

Richard Adams (author of Watership Down) also passed on Christmas eve. I've just seen it announced today. At least he had a decent innings at 96, just a shame he won't get to see the new screen version of his book come to fruition.

(I really somebody is keeping David Attenborough in cotton wool and bubble wrap for the next few days!)

Well at least it seems that Fisher's filming for the next 'Star Wars' movie was complete. So we'll get to see her on screen again this time next year.
