3 days to go and I can't see one so here goes

Image

V

Fri 21 Apr, 5:35pm AEST. McLean Park, Napier, NZ

Teams
HURRICANES: Jordie Barrett, Cory Jane, Vince Aso, Ngani Laumape, Julian Savea, Beauden Barrett, Te Toiroa Tahuriorangi; Blade Thomson, Ardie Savea, Brad Shields (c), Vaea Fifita, Mark Abbott, Jeffery To'omaga-Allen, Ricky Riccitelli, Ben May. Reserves: Leni Apisai, Chris Eves, Mike Kainga, James Blackwell, Callum Gibbins, TJ Perenara, Otere Black, Ben Lam

BRUMBIES: Who cares their fans are all bastards

Top of the Aussie conference vs 3rd in the NZ conference in a titanic battle for the ages. Brumbies coming off of a moral denting loss to the Rebels in Melbourne while the Canes snuck home against the Blues in Dorkland.

Injuries could be the decider in this, still no word on Coles and Procter and Fatialofa is definately goneburgers for the game. However you would have to say that the Canes should win this one by 7 to 10 points.

Sports bet has the odds at;
Hurricanes $1.10
Brumbies $7.00

Ponies supports are confident of the win, any reason for the bravado (apart from being rabid supporters of course)

Jordie Barrett's Hurricanes form likely to see him miss Under-20 World Championship

Hurricanes fullback Jordie Barrett may miss the Under-20 World Championship in favour of sticking with his Super Rugby team.

Jordie Barrett is likely to miss the Under-20 World Championship in favour of continuing his run at fullback for the Hurricanes.

At the start of the season, the age-group tournament would have been a high priority for the 20-year-old, but with Nehe Milner-Skudder's injury and his subsequent form for the Hurricanes he may be setting his sights higher than that.

It has led to him being left out of the under-20's squad, announced on Tuesday, for the Oceania warmup tournament next week due to "Super Rugby commitments", which puts his participation in the showpiece event in Georgia, starting on May 31, in doubt.

This will be a tough decision for the young man.

6.Fardy
7.Alcock
8.GOAT

Loose forward Brad Shields will lead the Hurricanes for the first time after being named captain for Friday's Investec Super Rugby match against the Brumbies at McLean Park in Napier.
As well as Shields being handed the captaincy in his 76th appearance for the club, the match will also mark significant milestones for halfback Te Toiroa Tahuriorangi and reserve back Ben Lam.
Tahuriorangi makes his first Super Rugby start following three previous appearances off the bench, while Lam, who has been capped seven times with the Blues, is poised to make his Hurricanes debut after being named in the reserves.

Tahuriorangi replaces TJ Perenara, who moves to the reserves, while wing Cory Jane comes back into the team on the right wing for Wes Goosen.
In total there are four personnel changes to the side that ran out against the Blues last weekend at Eden Park, including two in the pack where Blade Thomson and Vaea Fifita start at No.8 and lock respectively.
Thomson returns to the field eight weeks after dislocating his shoulder during the Hurricanes round one win over the Sunwolves in Tokyo, while Fifita replaces Michael Fatialofa who suffered a knee injury at Eden Park.

The reshuffle means Ardie Savea shifts back to openside, after several weeks at the back of the scrum, and Callum Gibbins into the reserves where he is joined by lock/loose forward James Blackwell.
Friday night's match will be the tenth time the Hurricanes have played at McLean Park, but the first time against the Australian Conference leading Brumbies.
In previous matches in Napier, the Hurricanes have won six and lost three.
In total the Hurricanes have played the Brumbies 22 times for a record of nine wins and 13 losses. The teams have played ten times on New Zealand soil, all in Wellington, splitting those matches five wins apiece.
Last time the club's met was in Canberra in the opening round of the 2016 season with the home side winning 52-10.
Hurricanes team to play the Brumbies at McLean Park in Napier on Friday night is:

Another year another hurricanes team without locks. FFS we need 3 actual locks in the squad and then a couple of blindside/lock cover.
It is our achellies heal, if you consider a gaping hole in your roster hard to hit with a bow and arrow.

Broadhurst seems to be permabroken and should be shuffled off to get healthy, Lousi came over and has not be seen since then and now the with Fats out its down to Fafita starting, great round the park but a bit on the small side for those other things locks do like lineouts and scrums.

Getting real tired of this shit and will be considering sending Hurricanes management a sternly worded letter telling them to listen to a random rambling from an internet dude and get some bloody locks.

Good to see Thomson back. He's a quality player. A few years back he started quite a few games at 8 with Vito out and when Vito returned it made no difference. And with Michael Fatialofa out we need another lock option. I assume that's why the 1.90 Blackwell is in the reserves rather than the 2.00 Lousi.

Goosen had a shocker last week. He obviously isn't being given a chance to redeem himself from the reserves. but it will be good to see Lam get a run

Our reserve half back and 1st need more game time so good to see Te Toiroa Tahuriorangi getting a start. With Perenara in the reserves just in case.

Boyd seems to be doing a good job of rotating the squad albeit with more than a few injury enforcements.

Any word on Coles?

Hopefully, though I fear he has been rushed back into the starting line up due to the dearth of locks, rather than start from the pine. It's a big ask after 8 weeks out.

See how he goes then if/when he runs out of steam they revert to Ardie at 8 perhaps.

Anyone notice with the photo including hair and beard a resemblance between Blade and Coles?

Unlikely to be in the 23 with Brad "tits for hands" Shields the El Capitano.
Hopefully he is just getting in a good rest before a busy lion taming session

The Brumbies have had a torrid start to the season. There have been some good results, such the spanking they gave the Reds and the Waratahs, but to lose to the Rebels last week would have been a real slap in the face, and it does not get easier this week.

I can't see the Brumbies getting up for this one, but then I would have said the same about the Rebels last week. Given the fact that the Canes put 71 points on the Rebels in the 2nd round, I can only wonder what's going to happen.

The Canes side has a strong forward pack, especially with Blade Thompson back in the mix, which will help at lineout time without Fatialofa. With Thompson, Shields, Fifita and Abbott, we'll have a few options, but I wish Coles was throwing instead of Riccitelli.
