I didn't contribute and so would feel guilty doing that, but I do wish him all the best.

What he said.

That's just a PR-specific email, not from his blog.

From the incarcerated one

"A reminder you can get access to his blog by dropping him an email to fox@gavafox.com

You certainly don't have to have contributed to his escape fund to be included and he welcomes any new readers. The blog contains lots of information and pictures about life in Kerobokan as well as stories about some of the more colorful and unsavory characters inside."

I reckon you could be done on tax evasion or some sort of charities fraud. I will get my people into it.

Wait.

I understand that you can't expect to get a beer, a juicy steak or a round of golf in an Indonesian prison. Clean bathrooms too.

But is he so bad at organising that he couldn't even get a shag in a prison - something I thought you are guaranteed to get when you go to prison???? Admittedly not always the way you like it, and never with a female of the species, but you will still get shagged. Soap in shower and all that.

Or is he that ugly?

Glad to have read that things have gone as well as they could have for DP in this situation. Can't wait to use all the regular prison style jokes on him once he returns to the bored.

Bugger. Stitched up not once, but twice.

Quote:
Dear Plums

Just when you think the worst is over, along comes a kick in the teeth that you simply didn't expect. I am due to be released on May 8 and have been counting down the days like a schoolboy that has finished exams and is waiting for term to end. I behaved impeccably, and believed I've given the authorities absolutely no reason to jeopardize my release.

The one thing you had no control over, of course, is what other people have planned for you. While this experience has taught me an immense lesson in what friendship really means, what the camaraderie of global journalism means and what the support of strangers in the rugby loving community means, I now realize also that there are some vindictive bastards out there, people who want to mess with your head and well-being for no other reason than they have the power.

I was summoned to the Warden's office today and entered to face five senior guards standing around a padded envelope that had been addressed to me in prison. The envelope bore no return address and gave no clue to the identity of the sender.

"Does this belong to you," the Warden asked?

I certainly have not been expecting anyone to send me anything in here -- in fact I discouraged it because the postal system is so inefficient -- and so obviously pleaded ignorance.

"Do you know what is in it," he asked.

Obviously I had no idea. I swear it. But the looks on their faces told me they didn't believe me.

"Open it," they said, and gestured to the envelope, which had clearly already been opened and examined.

I was reluctant to do this. Once your fingerprints are on shit like that you are really f**k, but they made it clear that if I didn't pick it up they would force it on me.

With shaking hands I picked it up. I couldn't tell what it was, but I knew it was something I didn't want.

"Open it," the warden barked, more urgently this time.

I carefully shook out the contents onto his desk and gasped. Honestly, I had to turn away.

"Masala besar, masala besar," the warden said. "Big trouble, big trouble," and I could see a cruel, sadistic smile begin at the edge of his thin lips.

"You think you are leaving in just five days, but now it will seem as if you will spend the rest of your life here," he said. "The days will drag on like they never end. You will feel like you will never get out."

For the second time since this ordeal began I plunged into instant and complete despair. I'm not embarrassed to say I felt afraid. My stomach churned and my heart raced.

How could I possibly explain this to my family? To my friends who have stood loyally by me?

"This is not allowed," the Warden screamed. "How can you bring this into my prison. This is poison that will destroy the lives of anyone who comes into contact with it."

He shook his head in disgust.

"Stand there," he finally said. "We need to take a picture with the evidence."
