Lots of oil related issues.

Well you would get an oil pressure issue soon after an engine failure.

The engine didn't fail.

The oil pressure issue shut the engine down as a precautionary measure.

Given it was an oil pressure problem the engine probably shut down to prevent itself from blowing up, and if it wasn't that serious why did it stop Hamilton's session with still 2 and a half hours left?

Seeing Latifi in 3rd just proves how everyone is holding their times back. I doubt Williams is that good to post a 1:17:313.

It still puts him about 1.4 seconds behind the best from Merc on the same tyre. If Williams has closed up to being in the midfield now, that could be accurate.

(not that I think it is, I'm just sayin')

What I am saying is the engine itself didnt fail but could have if it hadn't shut itself down.

They would have had to find the issue and fix it. Best to iron this out now.

Sainz has just done a 17.2 on C2s which is pretty handy I think.

And now a 16.8 on the C3s. I think McLaren are only the fourth team below the 17s after Merc, Ferrari and Alfa.

A 1.16.457 for Chuck but his Ferrari was 30km/h slower in the speed trap than the Alfa, so probably more time to come for Ferrari on the C5.

Something I had noticed myself - and Sky have just mentioned also - Mercedes have not been using the DAS this week.

I think Bottas used it in the pits when he drove past the Ferrari garage

More interesting to me is Russell recording a 1:16.8 for 6th fastest, given Latifi's low '17 yesterday this year's Williams does appear to be much closer to the front

It's about time

Here's hoping 8) Whilst I'd like to see them edging nearer to the middle of the pack anyway, I'm more curious to see how Russell is in wheel-to-wheel action. We barely had a couple of occasions last season where we saw his skill, so if the car is up to it this season he really needs to show his true potential (see Alonso in 2001). Maybe the Mercedes drive is his aim?

Considering the data so far and some of the noise coming out of the Ferrari camp, I'm wondering if they've done a McLaren (circa 2015) to themselves and designed a car with good downforce at the cost of being horribly draggy. They'd have turned the engine up at least to a pretty normal level by now - you don't want to get to AUS without ever having run it in a real mode!

And a 16.4 on the C3s!

Have Red Bull used the C5s?

Ferrari over 170+ laps today 8O They have been really productive this week and done most laps I think. RBR not sure why lap count is low. But I think they have a good car. Although this is unlikely I will not be surprised if RP start good this year:

What I am saying is the engine itself didnt fail but could have if it hadn't shut itself down.

They would have had to find the issue and fix it. Best to iron this out now.

They've only got 2 weeks to sort the problem out otherwise they're going to have to run the engine seriously detuned in Melbourne.

They were losing 3 tenths to most teams in S1 which has only one corner which shows how much they had to turn the engine down, AMuS have confirmed this to be the case.

I moved the Ferrari/FIA engine posts to the relevant thread as while it was announced at the end of testing it's not a separate issue.
