I often go to the pub after watching Grand-Prix's and talk to a guy who also follows F1, the other night we talked and watched the edited highlights of the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Our talking points from that race were.

Vettel and Leclerc's collision we blamed Sebastian for it and we were both surprised that the little tap was enough for them both to retire but it happened.

Then last night one of the barman at the pub said that he and his girl friend enjoyed the race and he said he wonders if it will be Vettel's last season at Ferrari next year and I asked him where would he go? would he retire or go elsewhere? he said back to Red Bull....

So I am wondering what conversations you people have down the pub about F1 and I am interested in reading your replies.

Absolutely none at the pub. If I went to a bar here in Michigan and tried to talk about F1, half the people would think I'm crazy and the other half would assume I'm talking about NASCAR.

I have had a few chats at my local kart track, and also recently on the train returning from COTA.

* A big talking point is Haas, and how useless their drivers are. Many people here were baffled by Haas passing on the Hulk in favor of Grosjean.

* It's great to see McLaren looking good again, and everyone loves their drivers (I'm a McLaren fan, so this is where conversations tend to end up...)

* Red Bull is Max's team, and nobody will be allowed to challenge him there (not so much one I agree with)

* Ricciardo made a very bad gamble moving to Renault.

* The racing has been good this year.

* Vettel's suspension failure in COTA.

That sums up most of it.

Even in the paddock at a clubman level car event. Very few people talk about F1 or indeed motorsport in general.

I find plenty of people like it, but few actually talk about it - compared to say MotoGP - which I find be in conversation in pubs, workplace, etc quite a lot more. I tend to find people who are into bikes will engage in talk with other bike fans a lot more readily than car fans.

I expect that is because generally bikes are quite a bit more simple than cars and far easier to relate to in a racing context. Even at clubman level, talking about spring rates, damping/rebound and even basic aero..... it gets very dry, very quickly and thats "simple" motorsport.

I'm usually too drunk to remember most pub conversations but I've found that recently a lot more F1 fans are springing up at work (possibly due to my wearing F1-branded clothing around the office) and I'm sometimes chatting for 20+mins with people.

One of our high-up management has just booked Monza 2020 based on my recommendation, and in turn he recommended Singapore (slightly out of my price range unfortunately!).

It doesn't get too technical, just the overall season/last race/silly season stuff. It does break the day up quite well though.

I live in a big city in The Netherlands. In the city: most talk is about the Zandvoort GP; people have the idea that the decision to have a GP here is overrushed. That all normal procedures are abandoned because The Man (support of multinationals, owner of circuit is both a royal and a real estate tycoon) wants it done. When I visit my family in the country I meet the Max fans. They love their F1, the young people are really into it and lots of friends got into it through their kids. Discussion points here: is Max really as good as the evil Ziggo Propaganda Machine makes us believe he is?

Ask him for a raise for a totally legit reason!

Absolutely! And if you get the raise invite some of us along please!

All I did was show him my phone footage of Ericsson's crash in Monza FP2 and he booked it like a shot. He said Singapore was excellent for fans, various entertainment stands located around the track and all within walking distance. Fingers crossed!

You raise an interesting point with your comment about Ziggo. Is there any difference of opinion between young and old about how silly their propaganda is? Or between the city and the country?

I'm not sure I would dare bring up the subject in a pub in the Netherlands.
