Hamilton has now given himself the chance to get a huge chunk of the DOTD votes. Probably will get more than Bottas if he finishes in the top 5 and Bottas finishes where he started. if drivers want to get votes on this site, they will know starting lower down the grid on a track that is not too hard to overtake on will likely get them plenty compared to keeping it clean and staying near the top the whole time :D

Relax.

I know that some reports have changed since I wrote this, but this is basically true that drivers do tend to get a lot more votes if they happen to fall back then climb up again. Just because that happens (and even when it is the drivers fault that they are low down), it isn't enough of a reason to me to vote them over their team mate if their team mate has been solid up at the front but not much has changed. Just saying this as it has happened a lot with many drivers in the past on this thread.

What will Mercedes do? starting 14th is pretty risky. I would not be surprised if they replace the gearbox and start at the back. It all depends on how bad the gearbox and PU suffered due to the bumps and the hydraulic leaks.

There are 2 contradicting weather reports for the race today:

- The temperature might be close to 30 degrees C making it a hot afternoon. As per Friday runs which were run in similar temperature, the tyres were suffering as bad as they did in Austria. There was heavy blistering on the rear tyres on Friday. This means those starting on Ultrasofts will not be able to retain their tyres for long. Most of the teams will also opt for 2 stop strategies due to heavy tyre wear.

- There is a good chance of thundershowers during the 1st half of the race.

This program on sky with Button and Hamilton. In the back of a car. Are they on a private road or something? as they are not wearing any seat belts and look to be going at a reasonable speed. Maybe it is staged and the road is closed off. Are they actually in the car to get somewhere ir purely just for show?

I have never seen a driver take comfort in DOTD standings even when they dragged a car from the back of the pack to a podium finish. Look at Lewis at Silverstone. All the fans were happy over a great drive and all Lewis could see is that he had been deprived of a sure victory.

Yes, voters will often give their votes to a driver who carves his way forward after starting at the back. Such drives are often sited as a measure of a drivers greatness at being able to overcome adversity. Given today's difficulty with passing, a pole position to checkered flag victory is often seen as a snoozer. Still no driver will ever start any farther back than he has to just so he can achieve a greater degree of glory in the eyes of the press or the fans.

Well obviously. Hamilton will have to do more right to finish third today than Bottas will to finish second. Assuming a straight forward race.

i do know that they wouldn't do this yes. But it was like Brazil last year. On another site, hamilton got the DOTW vote. He finished 2 places behind Bottas due to his own mistake. Bottas's weekend was clearly better and he got vertually no votes compared to Hamilton despite getting pole. That is my point. I first thought this mistake yesterday was Hamilton's cause. I still think he is partially to blame for this.It often is the case that drivers at the back that climb up get more votes. But yes, no driver would try to do this. Obviously.

Seems that all of the top ten teams are starting on the UltraSofts. If the USs go off pretty quickly, (especially in hot conditions) a lot of them could end up fighing their way through back markers who started on the softs.
