New forum.. now I'm back from perma-ban woohoo :D

for the record I've been perma-banned because I criticized the old moderating team, so new mods don't get any funny ideas, I wasn't bad :P

good to be back and the forum looks nice :)

I've always been a McLaren fan, but I guess this year, I will be rooting for TWO. Go team Lotus. I hope Kimi goes back to McLaren someday.

They missed the chance to sign him for 2010, now they're happy with Hamilton/Button combo, I can't see this changing for the next 2-3 years, by that time, I hate to admit it, but Kimi will be too old

We're seeing the last 2 seasons of Kimi in F1 I think, unless Lotus became very successful in the those 2 years and can have a good car in 2014

I can't really see him stick around just for the sake of it. If WRC still exists he would probably go back there

they are filming it on Wednesdays, so for his episode it will be 7th March. Met Office doens't say much yet, but Tuesday is cold-ish (+6) and no rain.

i need to sort out connections in my brain, then :D

anyway:

Quote:
A snippet from Ted Kravitz: “Romain Grosjean set the fastest first sector of anybody so far today. Ultimately the lap was only a 1:23.597s but it will certainly back up what Grosjean was saying yesterday, that the Lotus is very nicely balanced and gives the driver plenty of warning as to what it’s about to do when he’s pushing on the limit.”

sounds promising and looking forward what Kimi can do and learn from car tomorrow

Earlier in testing the other teams were doing 2/2. I share your desire to get Kimi some f'n laps. Hopefully, he puts up 200+ laps over the next 2 days.

FYI
Hamilton - "Lotus looks really quick, so it will be interesting to see how they turn out at the first race". Take it for what its worth...

More good news. Grosjean's put in consistent fast laps during his race simulations today. The car seems to be good. Lets see what Kimi does tomorrow

Natural talent doesn't need miles ;)

He'll kick donkey, and I'm sure he'll focus on race pace, so don't expect glory runs from him IMO

Kimi looks HORRIBLE so far today.... I know he wanted steering changed, but he is running Murussia times out there.... Let's hope he does at least 50 laps in the afternoon and gets some 1.23's in there

Not worried at all over the slow times today as they could be doing all kinds of stuff.
Furthermore theres plenty of other variables to consider like above mentioned a race engineer who hasnt worked with the car before etc.

However, if they fail to do some decent times by the end of tomorow then i must admit, id be a bit bothered.
But then again the more you think about it, it makes no sense that he would be that much off pace considering how fast a driver he is, and what he did in Jerez :)

If it rains again tomorrow that mean Kimi essentially had 2 days of testing after 2 years of not driving in F1

they should have let Kimi drive yesterday like the other teams did with their drivers

You can easily say that in a hindsight

Maybe they wanted to iron out any issues before giving him a good car for 2 days

FiA didn't approve it.

Kimi speaks about today

Quote:
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/97827

Kimi Raikkonen says he is not concerned about having missed out on a lot of pre-season testing mileage and still has confidence in Lotus's reliability.

Today was the returnee's first day on track since 8 February as Lotus had to withdraw from last week's Barcelona test due to a chassis issue, and Raikkonen's first session back in the car was then disrupted by steering problems, limiting him to 43 laps.

"The power steering just didn't work. It was the same system as yesterday but it just decided not to work today," Raikkonen explained.

"We tried to fix it, we thought that there was some small issue that we could fix, they tried to do it and unfortunately those things take a long time to do and it still didn't work as it should and we had to change the whole system, which takes another one and a half hours. It takes a long time. It wasn't perfect still [afterwards], but it was OK."

The Finn denied that the lack of running would be a major issue for Lotus, and said he still had complete faith in the team.

"I guess you always wish to have more days, but it is what it is and you have to deal with it," Raikkonen said.

"At least in the first week we had very good running and I don't think we have any major reliability issues in the car so I think that's a good thing. We had one problem last week - that's fixed and there are not going to be any more issues.

"Now it's just to get things on a level where you think you're happy and you know to press the right buttons at the right time. Maybe a few more days wouldn't hurt but I'm very confident that we will get it right."

He does not feel like the lost mileage has hampered his efforts to readjust to Formula 1 after two years away in rallying either.

"We're still learning things but everything is going smoothly and there are no problems," he said.

on PF1

Quote:
In action on the second last day of pre-season testing, Raikkonen had hoped to make the most of his time behind the wheel of the E20 especially after the team were forced to cancel last week's outing due to chassis issues.

But, it was not to be.

The Finn managed just 17 laps in the morning with the team revealing that he was having troubles with his steering column while out on track in the afternoon, he added just 26 laps to his tally before the rain came down.

Raikkonen finished the day last on the timesheets, 3.285s off the pace but still managed to find the positives.

"It was good to get in the E20 after missing testing last week," he said.

"We had an issue with the power steering in the morning then we didn't run in the wet, so it was quite a short time for me in the car today.

"At least we got some runs.

"The car was reliable when on track meaning we gained some good data for the team. Hopefully the weather will be better tomorrow and we can complete more laps."

I'm getting a bit scared about the power steering. Why? Because I look how bad Trulli was last year and according to him it was all because of the steering and how he didn't like it. Sounds like the most obvious excuse ever but 2010 he outqualified Heikki 11-7 just to get beaten 15-2 last year. Either Heikki became awesome or Trulli started sucking but something drastic happened in the power rations there.

Anyway, I hope it isn't anything like that.

Even I was thinking the same thing...May be they can provide him with the kind of steering he wants....Else it is going to be a long season...
