I wouldn't know about this weekend, as I was unable to find the ESPN telecast for and practices of qualifying. Yeah that is going to grow the sport ESPN/Spectrum.

Maybe they will show the race.

They're supposedly showing the race live for us, but only time will tell if some college sport has preempted it... x(

I'll just pass - These guy's never shut up and really Brundle and Deresta you could hire any better.
I guess when it should be called UK1.
I think the US was just coming around and I figure they will drop back to pre 90's level.
What a waste - I just DVR now and fast forward til either contact or pit window or see a position change.
Stuff does go alot quicker though.

someone at liberty at espn2 listened, at least this week. no commercials totally screwing up our broadcast because the broadcasters don't know we went to commercial.
i said they ought to run a mothers banner along the bottom at times. the mothers banner in the corner was fine.

now get some post race coverage

No pre-race or post race coverage. Boring commentary and no interviews from the pits. Also, how come we hear so much from Hamilton's radio and so little from everyone else. This type of coverage is certainly not going to increase F1's popularity in the USA.

We had pre-race "On the Grid" coverage here on ESPN2, nothing after the winners circle.

I find Crofty a bit annoying but not as much as Leigh Diffey.

Could have used a bit more from Vettel and Bottas' radios. Don't know how hard it is to capture that for broadcast though. Would have been interesting to hear from Gasly, Magnussen, Hulkenberg, or Alonso.

The broadcast today was stellar. I don’t recal many breaks and every bit of action was well cover dmwith the exception of the race director cutting away to replays while the battle up front was at its peak.

Yes, no commercial breaks at all within the race broadcast that I can recall. ESPN must have listened to complaints last time, because my perception was certainly that it was much better this time!

Just a quick point about the radio, that is out of ESPN/SKY's hands. It's what the director decides to put on the world feed, not just the UK coverage.

No commercials? You lucky ducks! We've been suffering through commerical breaks framed for 4:3 in Canada for years. TSN = worst F1 provider ever.

This week-end they finally framed in 16:9 for the split screen commericals after I complained to Liberty Media's Digital Rights head, I've been sending TSN messages for two years with no outcome.

Commercial-free, can only dream of that.

I watched all events (FP1-3, quali, and race) all on the ESPN app (not live), and I had no problems, race totally comercial free, and I must say they did a great job for this GP. I am still not getting the full post race coverage, they only showed the podium celebration and interview. Has anyone else found where you can get that coverage on the app? Or are we just not getting anything after the podium?

As for the UK biased coverage, what do you expect, last year NBC put a lot of emphasize on HAAS, as they should it is a US based team.

I will say I thought Buxton's grid walk was far more energetic than Brundle, as Will was running and jumping in all over, and just stuck the mic in the face of who ever he wanted to talk to. I believe they have the authority to do that on the grid. Other than that I am very much enjoying the new broadcast, but I still miss Matchett, Hobbs, and Buxton.

Kudos to Mothers Car Care Products for picking up the ball and sponsoring the entire race commercial free. Let’s encourage them to keep it up.

This weekends coverage was a massive improvement, thank you ESPN for addressing the situation. I will not complain about what we've lost if this format remains.

Awesome Blossom!

Finally PROPER race coverage for a racing series in the U.S. Not even the darling [COUGHBoring] Series NASCAR is commercial free.
This is a HUGE deal because it means that Liberty took notice of what the rest of the word enjoys and likely met with ESPN and suggested a commercial free broadcast
to retain the attention of the fans. Hoping this is permanent because it kept me excited and glued to the action with extreme focus.

Suspect it is 'permanent' for 2018 - following years ???????????

here is a link to the article about no commercials. they "intend" to run no commercials throughout the rest of this season. great news, and long overdue. i imagine it means f1 streaming isn't happening this year either

I'd guess that all depends on the numbers. If they are strong, they'll likely not want to change a thing.. Perhaps do a scrolling type banner at the top or bottom of the screen during the telecast promoting sponsors for 30-45 seconds and then disappear.

The time gained from not showing commercials = post race show. Which is a much welcomed showing.
Now if they could get rid of david croft :] ( guy is annoying)..... A feature to watch without broadcaster commentry and just track audio would be great.

Purely theorising on my part, but the sudden sea change on the attitude towards adverts on the ESPN coverage kinda smells like Liberty paying for you guys to taste that sweet, sweet ad free honey for a season before it all disappears behind their OTT coverage paywall, enticing you in with the knowledge of how it could be. Of course, the OTT coverage still looks like a godsend compared to years of ad riddled half assed attempts at showing the races so people (more people, perhaps? Ad free racing must be something of a draw over there) are a lot more willing to stump up a few dollars a month for the superior product.

Guess its a win/win for you guys this season either way, enjoy it!

Your theory is possible but limited / no commercials breaks are done with other sports on espn. Also when f1 is broadcasted on the spanish network it has been commercial free for years. I think it has to do with the time slot window and how much content they are trying to crame onto 1 network without overlapping / running long into another show.

it will be interesting to see if the f1 streaming has commentators for the usa audience.
no commercials is very nice, but they didn't have much choice using the british broadcast. the "hamilton show, and everyone else is just in the way" gets old. i understand why, but it certainly gets old. and they don't need to fill every second with talk. better than nothing though.

I'll say that the Hamilton bias isn't as bad as I thought/feared it'd be though. I haven't been put off by it at all so far, but that can be down to Lewis not factoring in the races as much as he normally would be so there's a chance it could get worse.

I can't say that I see the huge difference in competent commentary that I was lead to believe there would be either though. The biggest difference I see in that respect is that they're better at not talking over radio transmissions.

I am still not finding the past race coverage, I watched this race live on TV, not on demand. The TV coverage cut out before the podium interview started, and I could not find it anywhere on ESPN's App. Can anyone guide me to where they are getting the post race coverage.

I watched it on ESPN 2 via DirecTV and I had all the pre and post race coverage too.

Guys. (and ladies).

I now have F1 race coverage with no commercial breaks and listen to Brundle rather than Hobbs (still trying to figure out why Americans liked the guy outside of potential nostalgia). I didn't necessarily dislike Speed or NBC, but I do miss Steve Matchett commentating. but F1 viewing is now fantastic IMO. Liberty has so far made some great moves.

Actually, if you pay attention, Martin clearly doesn't like Lewis. Crofty is the only one that's truly biased in Hamilton's favor. It's just irrational fans that claim bias every time someone has something positive to say about a driver they hate.

Whos your provider? (Someone with a similar provider might be able to assist)

I watched it on ESPN 2 via DirecTV and I had all the pre and post race coverage too.

Actually, if you pay attention, Martin clearly doesn't like Lewis. Crofty is the only one that's truly biased in Hamilton's favor. It's just irrational fans that claim bias every time someone has something positive to say about a driver they hate.

The sheer amount they were talking about Lewis throughout the entire China race, highlighting the gap from Hamilton to Vettel even when Vettel was leading and Hamilton was totally out of contention, etc. shows that the program is centered around Hamilton. I wouldn't say that it's necessarily pro-Hamilton all the time, but it always focuses on Hamilton.

I agree, as exediron stated from the chinese gp it was lewis this and lewis that. Vettel was leading the race and lewis was nowhere to be found. I remember thinking when they showed the gap between lewis & vettel whats the point of this stat when bottas is the one going for the undercut!!! I honestly thought i missed something and lewis was now in a position to attack.
