Excerpts from the article:

'There is a growing feeling that maybe since we are a much-improved team in terms of performance and attracting more international sponsors, and sadly less Indian sponsors, there is a debate as to why the name should not be changed to give it a more international flavour," Mallya said.
There are some people who believe the current name Force India is restrictive psychologically.'

'Mallya said there was a "proposal on the table" from a sponsor regarding the name change while adding the team is in "negotiations for some additional sponsorships as well".'

'This is nothing new. I haven't in the last few years considered any name change. It's purely to do with current sponsorship, a proposal on the table and sponsorship going forward for the team.'

The name change could be good as long as it secures the future of the team & helps te team fight the top guns of the sport.

That would mean bringing in a long term title sponsor, or just 'inventing' a name like pinkspeed.
I would think their target would have to be a car maker, like Jaguar,- or Honda!

I like their current name, but I am highly biased having been brought up in India.
I do understand why they want to change it now though, and it makes perfect sense to do so. They could just drop India and call themselves Force F1.

I think force is far to confrontational and India to limiting. I would like to suggest Negotiated Resolution World.

There's been a lot of great suggestions so far, I feel like you've let the board down with this one.

Something simple, like VJM Racing, would do for me.

Or, bring back the name that started the whole thing: JORDAN

Secret Squirrel Racing Please!

No if not it will be Brabham or Jaguar, their new sponsor could buy them....

Would they be allowed to rename themselves to Pink Panther?

Normally team names reflect the person/party calling the shots, such as Bruce McLaren, Eddie Jordan and Enzo Ferrari. With this logic in mind, I propose; Sergio & Co Motorsport (SACM).

Back on a more serious note (a first for me  )

Why not keep the FI we know them as, but Force International. ( or Force Sale if someone pays for the graphic)

So we have it!

Force India are considering to change their name to 'Force 1' to bring a more international feel to it. FI will give a request at the end of the year so that this name can be incorporated from 2018 onwards.

There is no way in hell Bernie would have allowed that. Liberty are truly way more relaxed if this goes ahead

The step has already been taken in going for the name change. Excerpts from the article below:

'Documents reveal that on May 31 and June 6 new limited companies were registered in the UK under the names Force One Grand Prix, Force One Racing, Force One Team, Force One Technologies, Force One Hospitality and Force One Brand.'

Will be interested to see their Plan B, should this plan be declined.

Does sound a bit too F1-ish for me. Not me personally, but me if I owned F1..

Anyone can register any company name they want in the UK. All it needs is 1 form a year to Companies House saying that it isn't trading and you can keep the company dormant for as long as you want (I've got 3 registered companies myself, only 1 of which is trading).

I suspect they are in negotiations to change their name, but just having a few dormant registered companies doesn't mean it's set in stone.

Sure he would have and did several times for this very team…

Jordan
Midland
Spyker
Force India

Now 9 years later it will be renamed Force 1. It's not like they flip flopped year to year. Given Mallya's current legal issues and the financial climate of F1, I think it is wise for the team to open things up like this but I also think the name is a rather corny one IMPO. Would have been better to have an actual manufacturer lend it's name like Aston Martin or the like or even Brabham for it's much broader commercial appeal because many companies would jump at the chance to be associated with brands considered to be elite which is why I feel no one should oppose the change.

That's not what I was getting at. There's the really obvious potential for the team to be referred to as "F1". Not a hope in hell would that go ahead under Bernie's rule

VJM has said that the team hasn't finalised a name as yet (it seemed Force one would be it). He said the team has a few options regarding the new name. Good to hear this.

''F1 team of doom'' would get my vote.

But, hopefully they pick something a bit more serious!
