THE S2 SEASON FINALE __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

S3 DRIVERS & CONSTRUCTORS __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

S3 CALENDAR __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Image

S3 CHANGES ________________________________________________________________________________________________________

TYRES

A brand new Michelin all weather compound will be featured in S3, the Pilot Sport EV2

It will be a softer tyre compared to the previous used by the championship, with less rolling resistance and less weight of each compound. Tyres will be easier to get in temperature, expecially in quali, but will suffer a slightly higher consumption due to the improved performance.

RE-GEN INCREASED

In Season 3, drivers will be able to Regenerate energy at 150 kW under braking, upped from the previous limit of 100 kW. This should lead to an extension of the battery life and, probably, longer races!

WEIGHT REDUCTION

S2 Weight limit has been lowered by 8 kg in S3, while the battery cell weight limit has been increased from 200 to 230 kg!

UPDATED FRONT PACKAGE

Formula E goes radical with front-end approach in S3, a major change to the front is currently being tested by Renault & will be approved soon for every team. It should affect downforce slightly

PRE-SEASON TESTING ________________________________________________________________________________________________________

DATES:

23-25th August
5-7th Semptember

Tests will likely still free and open to the fans this summer!

Not sure about that front end. How wil the driver see where his corner is?

The rest is good.

There's not much less visibility to what there was already. Drivers probably couldn't see much more than the front of the nose from their position anyway and they already had those big wheel arches infront of them.

I'm really looking forward to the Marrakesh race. It'll be interesting to see what the track layout looks like. I'm also wondering about the New York circuit. Will it just be a track in central park, having it in a less iconic setting than central Manhattan or going all out and shutting down time square like the old Forza track?

I've seen da Costa linked with the second Andretti seat. Frijns and da Costa in the same team would be fun to watch. Is Piquet confirmed to be staying on with NextEV? He still seems to be getting linked to a seat at Jaguar, and if he makes that move, it would be great if he ended up there alongside Anthony Davidson.

Still hoping they do something about the calendar and stick a race between Marrakesh and Buenos Aires as a gap of over three months would be laughable. I guess the race on the 24th June would be wherever the London ePrix ends up being.

Piquet is going to remain in NexTEV for another season, he confirmed it in London!

Regarding Jaguar seat, multiple drivers are rumored: Anthony Davidson, Alex Lynn, Oliver Rowland, Bruno Senna, Pastor Maldonado according to Motorsport.com

edit: BMW is going to enter Formula E in Season 3 by supplying an existing team!

Yeah I hope they give him a car worthy of his talents next season. It's shocking how poorly designed the last car was.

Few interesting powertrain choices next year. Aguri/Techeetah will be using the eDAMS unit, the new one for 2016/7. Dragon are building their own, and BMW will be supplying Venturi, Andretti, or TCR.

Looks dangerous to me. First up, the driver can not see past it to the corner (of the car) and secondly it looks a ready made trap. Once something is in there it will not get out without ripping the front off.
Looks about wheel sized too

I wonder if those higher elements will cause a problem when the inevitable contact happens.

They do look tailor made to jam between the wheel and mounts, dont they?

ITV extended their contract for BTCC which is very popular and probably not a massive investment. They do a brilliant job covering that. I guess the very low viewing figures for FE simply do not make it viable. Apparantly 600,000 watched Buemi win the championship, but 214,000 was the average in 14-15 season with a drop to 138,000 this past year.

Heard rumours that Heidfeld will be retained at Mahindra whilst Senna is being shown the door. Senna also not likely to stay in Formula E as he's looking more at endurance racing (though he has been approached by Jaguar).

Yes, I've heard Senna's sponsorship is drying up

Rosenqvist saying that Heidfeld was one of his idols growing up made me laugh a little; how old must that make poor quick Nick feel?!

Adam Carroll will be driving for Jaguar. Team-mate should one from Alex Lynn, Mitch Evans and Harry Tincknell. The test is an effective shoot-out between those three for the second seat.

Lynn would be a good get for Jaguar. It doesn't look like he'll be on the F1 grid in 2017 and he's already said he won't do another year in GP2 so FE is probably his logical single-seater destination. Have to say I'm a little surprised they've given the other seat to Carroll.

Is it just me who feels the general quality of drivers coming into the series seems to be dipping a little? It feels like it has changed from being primarily ex-F1, younger drivers who didn't make it to F1, and drivers from Indycar to 'tintop' drivers and guys from WEC. By the third year I'd expected them to be attracting a better calibre of driver, and perhaps even some more significant names from within the motorsport world, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Whilst I don't know much about him, haven't people rated Rosenqvist quite highly in the past, and he never got a GP2 chance due to a lack of funding? I'm honestly not sure on this because as I said I know very little about the man. Regarding Carroll, maybe he's great with technical feedback? Jaguar have no reason to sign a marquee name in their first season, much like how Renault didn't need to for this current F1 season.

I wouldn't worry yet about the quality though. There are some very good names on the list who are sticking around for next season - Lopez and Engel entering the fray doesn't diminish from it yet (and Lopez could have ended up on the F1 grid in 2010 with the aborted USF1 project), and I can see several more F1 drivers ending up in this series once their time in F1 ends. The big manufacturer names are entering, and it's only a matter of time before the big driver names follow suit. I'd love to see Button try it, but highly highly doubt he'd give it the time of day given his comments about the series. Maybe Massa and Palmer who both look likely to drop out of F1 next year? Perhaps even Kvyat? Rubens strikes me as someone who would fit well in this category.

Donington Day 1

Image

Buemi got a final run to achieve the best lap of the day in 1'30''143! Two tenths from Formula E record

He went 1.9 seconds faster than last year's best performance in Day 1 (32.0), while most of the top ten drivers around 1 second faster!

Great performance by Mahindra with Heidfeld 2nd, rookie Rosenqvist in 7th, DS Citroen looking good but Jaguar is the surprise of the day!
Both Alex Lynn & Adam Carrol in the top ten!

Here it is some pics:

I think the quality is getting better myself. Lopez is a big boost

And after seeing how the likes of Trulli and Villeneuve got on I don't think they need those kinds of former top names

Tbh from the Ex-F1ers, only Buemi, Piquet, and di Grassi looked top drawer in FE. Villeneuve, Trulli, Heidfeld, Sarrazin, JEV, Speed, Wilson, Ma, D'Ambrosio, Liuzzi, all looked bang average. There are others that were so forgettable I didn't list them too probably.

Although to be honest I've been watching it via the YouTube live stream a lot recently on my Xbox so a move away from free TV probably wouldn't have affected me too much.

Lovely paint job. If it had a sensible front wing it would look even better.

Real nice livery on that Jaguar! I'm still not sure how I feel about that front wing, though...

I love it. I was certainly expecting British Racing Green too.

I must be weird in that I like the front wing...

This series isn't about aero. The front wing can look whatever way they want it to look
