sorry about the query on REALLY old news but...

Last year everyone had a good old laugh at Eddie Jordan speaking to Vijay (Owner of Force India) and when he turned round to the Indian gentleman next to him, asked him who he was, was answered " a brother" by the said gentleman, Eddie proceeded to go off on one about how he eats at the same restaurant as Vijay's mother. Of course it turned out that the guy was not Vijay's brother and was a business partner and had something to do with Sahara (the team's major sponsor). Everyone had a good laugh as Eddie tried to extricate his foot from his mouth but what I am wondering is how was Eddie supposed to know?!? The guy responded that he was a brother!!

I have checked if maybe in India they call senior partners or execs in a firm a "brother" but no luck so just wondering?

sorry again for the completely random topic but if racing does not start soon I might go more insane

In India , it is common to say "he is like a brother to me" for a close friend.

But it's no surprise that EJ put his foot in it, he has made a habit out of it.

You dont just talk to someone you just met about his mother.
Even if he was Vijay's "literal" brother he would have still given the same confused look to Eddie. This was made worse by the language barrier, which Eddie should also been aware off.

If you know someone's mother why would you not mention it when you meet them? It'd be rude not to!

Imagine if it was VJ's brother and he sees his mum and says "I met Eddie Jordan today"
VJ's Mum replies "oh I know him well, we eat at the same restaurant"
VJ's brother "well he never mentioned you"
VJ's Mum "what a pr!ck EJ is then"

Well that's how it plays out in my head lol

Yes, we should all be aware off the language barrier. :-|
