Can we put a list of drivers that had/have piloting license? I came so far with several names, making a rather short list:

Jack Brabham, Graham Hill, Niki Lauda, Gilles Villeneuve (H), Thierry Boutsen, Alessandro Naninni (H), Mark Webber.

Whom can yo add to the list?

* - "H" mark stand for helicopters.

IIRC Martin Brundle has a helicopter license.

we should amend this topic to ask, "out of those current F1 drivers who are pilots, who would you feel comfortable flying you and your family?"

I'm pretty sure Berger used to fly his own helicopter to European races.

Alonso is also working towards his pilots licence.

In that comparison, Webber looks like intercontinental pilot compared to Petrov. :D

Sadly, I saw Gilles Villeneuve's August helicopter parked near the paddock at Zolder in 1982, the day after he died. Carlos Pace was killed in a light aircraft accident in early 1977 but I don't know if he was the pilot. David Purley died while flying off the south coast of England in the summer of 1985 when he crashed into the sea in his Pitts Special stunt plane.

I just remembered Harald Ertl, also piloting airplane, and getting killed in a crash due to bad weather in 1983, I think, in Germany.

There's a story about a driver (I think it was Scheckter) trying to get to sleep in his hotel room the night before a GP. There was a helicopter buzzing around outside his window driving him mad, he eventually got up to see what was going on assuming it was the police. Turns out it was Gilles Villeneuve trying to land on the hotel lawn without any lights.

As far as I know, Michael sometimes flies his own plane.
Eddie Irvine used to fly his own chopper.

Colin McRae (WRC Driver) had a chopper certificate. He crashed with his friend and son onboard.
